Behold the return of original Snake Belly™ tire, the first of many vintage tires to come from us at House of Looptail™.

Right at home on any early Klunker, BMX Cruiser, Strandie or early MTB, the Snake Belly™ features an instantly-recognizable tread design like no other, and performance to match.

A tire as significant as the Snake Belly™ has of course been copied (poorly) and riffed-on (cheaply) a dozen times over the years.  But our new Snake Belly ™ tire is no copy, no tribute, and no cheap replica.  This tire is the real deal, with real DNA, and then some. 

In 1979, Panaracer Tire Corporation of Japan designed and manufactured the first Snake Belly™ tires for 20” BMX bikes. This design was scaled up to 26” not too long thereafter, instantly becoming a juggernaut of BMX Cruiserdom as well as arguably the first purpose-built “Mountain Bike” tire. Now, forty-five years later, we are extremely proud to have a formal partnership with Panaracer™ to again produce this iconic tire.

While copies and tributes invariably go cheap, we’ve taken the exact opposite approach.  Not only do we have the original designer and manufacturer on board, we’ve elevated the quality of this tire to new heights.  There's literally never been a Snake Belly™ this nice:

-         Brand-new mold

-         Modern, lightweight 60tpi casing

-         Folding aramid (Kevlar™) bead

-         60 psi maximum

-         Panaracer’s proprietary ZSG™ Zero Slip Grip all-condition rubber, specifically tuned for this application

This project has been a very long time coming. Years!  But the result of our efforts is not only a tire that looks right and fits correctly on your vintage ride, but also has the benefit of ride quality, performance and safety.  Some may think that a discussion about performance in the context of decades-old bikes is silly, but we don’t, and we bet you won’t either.
